* 40+ Winter is here, but with 73° for the first event of the
year no body complained. Strong field but after a few attacks a
break of five riders, N Trujillo, JA Rodriguez, K Corsello, J
Armas and J Hernandez; where gone. About four laps to go they
started attacking each other, for a moment “flaco” Hernandez got
dropped, everyone thought he was gone, but surprisingly he
catches up and won the race. Followed Corsello and Rodriguez.
* 50+ The wind started to be harder, but the old guys did not
mind. N Diaz from the beginning went in a solo, a few laps
after; K Schofield and B Reeves joined him. From there on looked
like the podium was taken, surprisingly Ken had a flat tire and
no spare wheel, S Redman took the last spot at the podium by
taken the field sprint. On a close sprint Diaz is the new leader
followed by Reeves.
* Pro 1,2,3 In the absence of last year’s winner, we saw new
faces; in this case, Y Rosete an elite triathlete took the field
by himself from the second lap, after a few of them in a solo,
three riders started to chase: S Morfin, JA Rodriguez and S
Barnagaud and got to him. These four were gone, now the problem
was to figure out, how to lap the field, in the other hand team
mates of Barnagaud and Morfin; controlled the bunch. The
spectators were so excited that donated cash prizes for field
sprints seeking to catch the beak, but did not work. About 5
laps to go, they had in reach the pack to get them lap. Team
work again, Barnagaud jumped the three companions and lapped the
field, the pack increased the pace and the other three could not
lap them as well. Only two places left at the podium, and Morfin
takes second followed by Rodriguez in third.
* Cat 4&5 Beautiful day for the biggest field of the day,
59 strong riders were about to face the best race of the day;
with eight cash prize intermediate sprints every other lap. All
attempts to breakaway were neutralized. A little bit of rain for
a couple of laps came as refreshment in a sunny day. Amazingly
this big field kept it together and ready for a massive spring,
but not until H Rendon jumped a lap to go and won the race in a
solo. His team mate W Loheide took second, followed by Y Llorens
to take last step on the podium.
* Juniors Juniors After many, many years without juniors’
races, they are back. 12 “new racers” showed up at the line.
They were divided into 3 categories. At the 10-12 category, N
Raffinango took first followed by M Mook and I Wallace. Next was
13-15 age group, the winner was M Maldonado, second place G
Dixon and closing the podium, we had C Roche. On the 16-17
category the winner was Carmen Pettersen.
