* 35+ Bill Bone team came stronger than ever. Early into the
race two riders form this team broke away from the pack and they
were gone, for a few laps three riders chased them but could
connect and rejoined back with the bunch. The current individual
pursuit and points national champion from Argentina Juan Dario
Merlos (1st.), with his team mate Ashton Huischer (2nd), imposed
strong pace to almost lap the field. Tim Valencia was able to
pick up a point in the intermediate sprints to get ahead at this
classification. The final sprint for the pack in search for
third place was taken by another bill Bone rider, Oscar Flores.
The general classification has changed; the new leader is
Shannon Malmquist.
* 45+ & 55+ Jose Armas was able to control the white
jersey by taken the two intermediate sprints but at the end of
the day, Wilhelmus Zegers was the strongest to win the race. The
second place of the race and the new yellow jersey leader is
Yamil LLorens, now he needs to bring his troops into the game.
Third place of the podium by millimeters was for William Loheide.
The older group (55+) gave us as winner Wallie Martinez,
followed by Charles Rosenthal that still is the current leader
overall. Third place of the day was for Fitzroy Craig.
* Pro 1,2,3 Powerful field at the start line with a missing
yellow jersey leader, the first intermediate sprint came and was
taken by the silver medalist at the Pan-Am Games in Canada last
year, Juan Dario Merlos. The race has been read to perfection
from two strong riders: Jake Silverberg and Roslan Rivera that
open up a gap to the field, the second points' sprint came and
was for Rivera, which secured his lead in this competition. The
pace by those two was high and split for about half lap by each
other, of course the section against the wind was handled by the
winner of the day Jake, but Roslan with the second place
consolidated his yellow jersey too. Difficult task ahead of him
to keep both jerseys. The field sprint for third place at 24
second behind the leaders was for Enrique Lopez.
* 4&5 Cat 4&5
As good riders keep moving up to category three, we have new
arrivals at this event, nice to see that our sport continue its
growth. At the first intermediate sprint the bunch was all
together and the points were for Ariel Lee. Right in between
sprints, four riders opened up a gap over half a minute that the
pack could not close. A few laps later it was a trio leading the
race. The second points’ sprint was for Jose F Lopez that ended
up winning the race in a solo; about 6 seconds behind Alexis
Cespedes took second place followed by Juan Buitrago.
