*35+ Team Cocos, came determined not to let any one go any
where. Any attempts to breakaway were brought back by Ortelio
Marin and Leonardo Martinez. Even though Martinez had the
sprinter’s jersey, every thing was set for Antonio Quinter to
win them all, which are intermediate sprints and the race. Last
three laps were driven by Martinez, then right before last turn
he gave the front of the bunch to his team mates and they took
first and second place, leaving a close sprint between Helms and
Gonzalez for third place.
*45+ With the arrival of Ivan Franco to this category every
one was keeping an eye on him, with the exception of Kenneth
Helms, Mark Hewitt and Wills Powell that took off from the very
beginning. These trio kept a good gap, as expected Franco jumped
but every one was there; then a second jump came from him and
only Ferrer, Aldridge, Valle, Teixeira and Carlos were able to
stay there. The first three riders lapped the field, then out
the next five only Franco, Valle and Ferrer also were able to
lap the bunch. Ivan won the race followed by Powell and Ferrer.
Helms kept the white jersey and now the new GC leader is Powell.
Looks like Bike America is in charge of the field with both
jerseys.
*Pro 1, 2, 3 Since Falcon did not come to race, yellow was
for grabs. GM bikes in second place overall had the mission of
keeping the bunch together and wait for the final sprint. The
other two teams with a change to be in yellow were Santo-Mega
and Cocos. The field split in two packs after many attacks.
Unfortunately Marin from Cocos Team and Henao from Santo-Mega
team did not make it to the twenty three men break. Out this
group near the end of the race attacks started to happen, but no
success from any one until David Cueli and Steven Mlujeak got
clear from the bunch to claim first and second place
respectively. Martinez won the field sprint followed by Williams
from Guyana, Caso got fifth and the yellow jersey for GM bikes.
*4&5’s Early break Alayon and Jose Rodriguez ahead of the
pack for a few meters, Rivera setting fifth on bunck jumped and
close the gap but kept on going, from there on they were gone.
Rivera reaffirmed that the whit jersey was his. Now the question
was Bermudez will keep yellow or Alayon from the breakaway group
will get it? Mid race four riders got clear form the pack, no
points left at this point, but GM bikes team took control of the
race to bring them back, only if they kept it a little longer,
they would it caught the break , but they lost momentum and the
gap open up again. The bunch sprint was for Arniella and fifth
place for Jorge Rodriguez the new guy in yellow also from GM
bikes team.
