Series I Race I

Lauderhill, FL, February 15th, 2015

* 35+ About 50 degrees opened up Series I, Cold for some, perfect for others. Strong field and hard racing from the beginning of the race, maybe a way of warming up. On the intermediate sprints, JF Rodriguez from All 4 cycling team took both of them, as he is now the fastest for the white jersey. A break of five riders, got clear, Recio Team had two riders in it, some advantage here…, that P Sambury played to perfection to win in a solo, followed by C Sosa and JA Rodriguez from Performance by Rossetti.
* 45+ & 55+ Maybe the weather played a factor, very hard pace on the first couple of laps and three riders where gone. Between some blocking from ghost riders team and CPO bikes team, the pack went into sleep mode, and almost got lapped. Now, two riders from CPO and one from Ghost, how this will be play out? J Armas took both intermediate sprints to take the white jersey. C Ortiz from Ghost riders’ team will sit to secure second place? Or will work equally to maintain the break? Final lap, K Schofield crossed the line in a solo, then J Armas took second by himself as well, and a few second after, to close the third step of the podium, C Ortiz. 55+ gave us from the bunch sprint S Kurth as the winner, followed by F Craig and J Leon to conclude the top three.
* Pro 1,2,3 Everybody came to this main event opening race. All our local teams came to play, Outcast, Stradalli, Alligator’s, All 4 Cycling, Rossetti, Patches, Recio, Cycle Depot, Cool Beans, Performance, Cocos, CPO, Veloce, and a few more that slip out of my mind. As expected this was a “war” Seven strong riders got clear from the bunch, many tried to get across but failed. Now the break got 6 riders, and R Companioni attached, he is in a solo; but two laps after the hard work from V Herrera, gets he back. In the mean time the intermediate sprints with one first and one second place gave as the first white leader, JA Rodriguez. Last lap, from faraway two riders standing up on the ride side of the road for the final sprint, R Companioni takes the leader’s jersey by the length of a wheel from T Gibbons, what an amazing photo finish. Third place of the day was for V Herrera.
* Cat 4&5 The most enjoyable race of the day, perfect weather, big field and high hopes for new teams and riders to dominate this season, since a few good contenders got upgraded to cat 3. Sprinter’s white jersey completion has a triple tie on first place, each riders has three points, F Acosta, E Lopez and C Pagan; we will see next time who will be the fastest to untie this and wear the first jersey. Many attempts, sometimes in a solo, and some others by two or three riders at a time, had not success. Strong pack kept it all together, until the last lap, from the distance two riders are clear in a controversial sprint to the officials, from the photo finish system, bib number 570 for about two inches crosses the line ahead of bib number 604. But official results came with a relegation to 570. Therefore the winner is Q King, followed by K Grimes from Steady Spin team, last step of the podium was for FA Acosta.
