* 35+ “Cloudy Morning” Many of the thirty five plus riders
saw that we may have bad weather and decided not to suffer in
our hills. Twenty brave riders showed up in a cloudy morning to
race into what it became a beautiful morning. Almost the entire
pack was together for half of the race. Small but strong group
of riders. Near the end, and before two laps to go Leonardo
Martinez and Hermanni Guntet broke away from the pack to claim
first and second place. Next in a solo effort for lap and a half
Joel Barros took third place. His team mate Raul Diaz won the
field sprint, followed by Todd Hancock. The general
classification changed drastically, now the leader is Martinez
ahead of Barros by three points. The former leader Gonzalez is
now in third place six points behind.
* 45+ “Three for Three” Big wheel Sunrise Team looked very
strong out there, three of it’s riders within the top five
places at the end of the race. Martinez kept the yellow jersey
and he is on his way to win series three and three series in a
row. Every lap the field got smaller and smaller, until it
consolidated into eighteen riders. Jose Benitez and wills Powell
were able to build up enough gap to cross the line by them
selves. Benitez made a move in the last climb about hundred
meters before the finish line and Powells could not respond.
Leader Martinez got third place, followed by Mosquera and
Rosenthal.
* Pro 1, 2, 3 “Crash” Since to be that the Pro 1, 2, 3
category like very much the so call “Dump Race” Faces that we
have not seen for a while showed up, like Lucas Wardain from
Orlando Race Club and some other riders from Naples. Big field
in a shine, humid and hot mid morning. Soon after a crash in the
back part of the course, since to be that three riders broke
away from the remained twenty one left in the main pack. Yusvany
Falcon, Antonio Quintero and Noe Gonzalez imposed strong pace
that the field could not match. Falcon’s strong uphill sprint
gave him the victory for about one bike length over Quintero.
The field sprint for fourth place was for Golfrey Pollydore
followed by Rainiel Sanchez that was able to maintain his yellow
jersey four points ahead of Falcon.
* 4&5 “Youth Domination” This final race of day was kept
together most of the time. They were looking each other like a
hawk. All attacks were short and not one was looking to put the
hammer down. Thirty five minutes into the race the first move
came from Daniel Mosquera, Michael Danish chased him hard uphill
but could not close the already opened gap, so next time around
he was caught by the bunch, while Mosquera gained time on them.
This twenty year old young rider made it in a solo break to
claim victory, making proud his Big Wheel Sunrise Team with the
second triumph of the date. Another young promise Jake
Silverberg, only fourteen years old outsprint the field to take
second place. Next in line was another junior, fifteen years old
Max Thilen took third. South Florida’s cycling future looks
bright with all new racing starts we are seen developing right
in front of our eyes. We encourage their coaches to keep the
hard work with these youngsters.
