*35+ Many riders looking for the championship’s jersey made
them to bring complete teams to conquer the newly designed flags
jersey. Cool Beans and Performance gave it all for their
qualified riders, Pink Panthers, Bike America and Ghost Riders
kept and eye on the field. The wild card Velo Masters made may
attempts to breakaway without success. Amazing final sprint
between Christopher Wright from Performance Team and Andy
Teixeira from Pink Panthers Team, for a couple of inches C
Wright was crowned as the 2011 category 35+ champion.
*45+ Bike America and big Wheel Team had been going head to
head this year, only two points separated them in the team’s
classification. After many attempts, a break of six open a good
gap, all of them qualified riders, we thought that was it, but
no, A Teixeira spoiled the day, a hard pull from the pack
brought three major contenders to the front. In a long and
strong sprint K Helms from Bike America Team took home the
champion’s jersey.
*Pro 1,2,3 Team Cocos and Sun Cycling Team gave us a good
race. Jump after jump, they were closing each other’s gaps in a
very fast pace. For a moment the pack slows down and L Martinez
breaks away with twenty minutes left in to race, the gap was
about three hundred meters that he kept for a while. Now Sun
Cycling initiated the chase again, they were closing lap after
lap, but P Medina jumped so hard that broke the pack’s rhythm
and he gets to Martinez; two laps later O Marin did the same
thing. Now three riders in the lead are unreachable to the rest.
L Martinez from Team Cocos wins the race and gets the coveted
champion’s jersey sponsor this year by his team.
*Cat 4 & 5 Strong Performance Team made every body else
do all attempts to breakaway from them to win the championships
jersey, unfortunately for them no one was able to accomplish
such a task. Every single try was brought back by Performance
team. The pace was kept high, surprisingly two unmark riders
from performance team emerge from the pack in the final sprint
to take top two places. The new 2011 category 4 and 5 champion
is Yamil Loorens.
