* On its 97th version, week number one will take us to
Ireland for the first 3 stages, with one individual time trial
plus two flat stages. Then we have to travel 1694 miles into
Italian territory on the first resting day. Just for a moment
imagine the amount of logistics needed to move this entire
infrastructure in 24 hours only. After setting foot on the
southern part of Italy, we will re-take stage 4th, a flat one as
well. The next three days will bring us 7 small climbs seeking
for the first king of the mountains. This one third part of
racing has 744.4 miles of pedaling, out of that, 37.6 are
dedicated to medium categorized climbing. The habitual
nervousness of the first week, will keep top contenders with
their eyes peeled, if we may add all the crashes, due to riders
looking for the right position at the bunch and the sprinters’
urgency of seeking for stage win; will bring us the right
formula of survival for the first seven days of racing…
* En su 97ava versión y durante la primera semana de
carrera, comenzaremos las tres primeras etapas en territorio
Irlandés; con una contrarreloj individual y dos etapas planas.
Luego tendremos que viajar 2726 kilómetros hacia territorio
italiano, esto durante el primer día de descanso. Por un momento
Imagínese la logística para movilizar toda esta infraestructura
en solamente 24 horas. Ya establecidos en la parte sur de la
bota italiana, retomaremos la cuarta etapa que también es de
característica llana. Los siguientes tres días nos traerán los
primeros 7 asensos en búsqueda del primer rey de montaña. El
primer tercio de carrera nos da un recorrido de 1200.7 kilómetros de los cuales 60.6 de ellos serán dedicados a los
asensos de montaña de categoría media. Los nervios habituales de
la primera semana mantendrán a los corredores con aspiración a
la victoria final muy atentos. Si a esto le sumamos las caídas
causadas por la búsqueda de una buena ubicación dentro del
pelotón, más la urgencia de los embaladores por las primeras
victorias parciales; nos dan la fórmula perfecta de
sobrevivencia de los primeros 7 días de carrera...
